A Comparative Survey on Misconception and Desire for Physique of College Students in Taegu

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was carried out to investigate misconception for physique and desire for physique of college students in Taegu(219 male subjects and 412 female subjects). The data was collected by questionnaire interview and anthropometry.
The results were as follows;
The mean age;height;weight;and BMI of male subjects were 19.8±2.3 years old;173.8 ± 8.7cm;65.8 ±7.9kg and 21.9±2.4;respectively. The mean age;height;weight;and BM of female subjects were 19.2 ±2.1 years old;159.6±4.9cm;51Z±6.0kg and 20.1±2.2;respectively. The average ideal weight desired by male subjects was higher than their real mean height by 6.5cm ; while the average ideal weight desired by them was higher than real mean weight by 4.6kg. The average ideal height desired by female subjects was higher than their real mean height by 5.1cm ; while the average ideal weight desired by female subjects was lower than real mean weight by 2.6kg. The percentage male subjects who desired to be slender;be fatty and maintain weight were 21.5%;33.8%;and 44.7%;respectively. The percentage female subjects who desired to be slender;be fatty and maintain weights were 70.1%;7.3%;and 22.6%;respectively.
